In an effort to address mounting concerns about content filtering, Elon Musk's X is employing 100 full-time staffers for a new Trust and Safety office in Austin, Texas. This development comes after Musk dismantled the company's worldwide trust and safety teams following its purchase. The new staff will apparently focus on monitoring content connected to child sexual exploitation, as the site faces heightened scrutiny in this area.

Linda Yaccarino, CEO of X, is scheduled to appear before the Senate Judiciary Committee on january 31, providing insight on the company's management of Child Sexual Exploitation Moderation (CSEM). The corporation intends to strengthen its commitment to combatting CSE online by implementing a "zero tolerance" policy for such content.

The newly established staff will not just focus on CSEM but will also help with other moderation activities, such as countering hate speech. The job descriptions for these positions state that moderators will investigate spam, fraud, and provide customer assistance. The plan to open a Trust and Safety centre of excellence in Austin comes after a recent incident in which sexually graphic false images of artist Taylor Swift spread on the platform without being removed, raising user concerns.

In an official blog post, X stated, "At X, we have zero tolerance for Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE), and we are determined to make X inhospitable for actors who seek to exploit minors. In 2023, we made clear that our top priority was tackling CSE online."
