Among South indian industries, the telugu industry is mostly recognized for producing significant revenue from the U.S. or North America (US+Canada) market. tamil movie sales have recently increased in this area, and although they are still considerably lower than telugu statistics, movies starring well-known actors have begun to make a respectable profit.

However, malayalam films, which were not even released until lately, have abruptly made a significant surprise debut in the North American market. All three of the most recent malayalam films performed exceptionally well in this area, taking in an astounding $2 million in total revenue.

"Manjummel Boys" achieved the highest grossing of any malayalam film in the united states ($1,421,586). Two other films, "Premalu," which is nearly a half-million dollar picture ($487,451), and "Bramayugam," which is a niche black-and-white film ($346,571), also performed well. These three movies made $2 million in only a few months and are still playing in American cinemas. It's only a matter of time till malayalam movies start bringing in even more money. The films that are released throughout the year will determine how well this newly discovered market is capitalized upon; the commercial potential is evident.
