Under the local police's nose, "belt shops," or illegal booze stores, appear to be booming throughout the city and its environs. Belt shops are thriving at auto/taxi stops, on highways, and in impoverished areas where alcohol is constantly and illegally sold for more than the MRP. Owners of belt stores typically import large amounts of alcohol from authorized retailers to resell. Nevertheless, there are also rumors that the alcohol is being produced illegally in Hyderabad's surrounding areas.
 
By selling the booze bottles to belt stores, illegal liquor producers avoid paying taxes to the government and make enormous profits. In anticipation of the lok sabha elections, Cyberabad's specific Operations Teams launched a specific campaign to stop the sale of alcohol in belt stores by adhering to the Model Code of Conduct.
 
On Sunday, 29 persons were apprehended by the police in Cyberabad for operating belt stores. Nearly 100 belt stores were searched by the Cyberabad SOT in various police stations after the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for the lok sabha elections went into effect last week. The IT industry and a few of the surrounding fringes of neighboring districts are under the authority of the Cyberabad police.
 
However, Cyberabad is not the only place where illicit stores exist. Belt stores are still open in regions like the RN colony in Falaknuma, Pardhiwada Puranapul, Jiyaguda, Tappachabutra, Alkapuri – Golconda, Lalithbagh Bagh Bolarum, singareni colony Saidabad, etc. These areas are under the police districts of hyderabad and Rachakonda.
 
According to a senior police officer, numerous police stations oversee stores in the Rachakonda area, especially those situated along rural roads and pockets. Belt stores cost the government money if alcohol is sold without going via telangana Beverages Corporation and is instead channeled through unlawful means.
