During a closed-door all-party conference on Thursday, the central government acknowledged security failings in the recent pahalgam terror assault, sources informed india Today tv on Wednesday. "Why are we seated here if everything had gone according to plan? During the discussion, a leader of the ruling party allegedly informed the opposition leaders, "There have been lapses somewhere that we have to find out."
 
The all-party meeting was called by the government to update opposition leaders following the horrific terror attack in kashmir - SRINAGAR/JAMMU' target='_blank' title='jammu and kashmir-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW'>jammu and kashmir that murdered 26 people, primarily tourists, and caused widespread public and political indignation.


A number of opposition parties raised concerns about the apparent breakdown of security procedures during the meeting.  "Where had the security forces disappeared to?  Several leaders reportedly questioned, "Where was the Central Reserve police Force?"
 
The Baisaran area near pahalgam in anantnag district, which is normally closed until the amarnath yatra in June, was opened by local authorities without informing security agencies, according to a government response.
 
Concerns were also expressed regarding the incident's delayed response.  Government officials reportedly clarified that there was no standard operating procedure (SOP) in place to deal with such events quickly and that the spot was a 45-minute uphill climb.  


After the discussion, Union minister Kiren Rijiju told reporters that all sides agreed that india should fight terrorism together.
 
"Everyone stated that they support the government's efforts to combat terrorism.  This message has been delivered by all political parties, and their leaders have united in their declaration that we will back whatever action taken by the administration.  Positive things came out of the meeting," Rijiju added.

"The terrorist act in pahalgam was denounced by all.  Rahul Gandhi declared, "The government has the full support of the opposition to take any action."
