On May 1, nani and Suriya, two South indian celebrities who aspire to be pan-Indian superstars, will face off at the box office with their new movies, Retro and HIT: The Third Case.  In HIT 3, which was directed by Sailesh Kolanu, nani portrays arjun Sarkaar, a fierce and determined police officer.  The protagonist of the tale is a 9-month-old infant who disappears.  Arjun takes complete responsibility of the case as a distraught mother begs for assistance.

Arjun's personal history, intense emotional depth, and violent action are all hinted at in the teaser.  Nani has a violent personality and believes that offenders should either be imprisoned or buried.  Suspense, crime, and emotion are all anticipated to be abundant in the movie.  However, at least in telugu, Suriya's retro trailer hasn't had much of an impression.  The trailer for the karthik Subbaraj-directed movie focuses on emotional aesthetics and abstract narrative.

Despite its stylish visuals, the telugu public hasn't taken to it.  Here, Subbaraj's reach is still constrained by his distinctive syntax, which is layered, artistic, and niche.  Retro feels more like a spiritual successor to Mahaan, which had no influence outside of tamil film enthusiasts, whereas many had hoped it would be more entertaining and bulkier.  Following the release of both trailers, it is evident that HIT 3 has the advantage in generating interest and the desire to see it in theaters.

While HIT 3's trailer isn't particularly noteworthy, it is distinct from Retro's, which hasn't received much attention in telugu circles.  Simply put, Retro's advertising lacks the excitement or interest that draws people to theaters.  The impact is already being felt by trade experts. HIT 3 is preferred by exhibitors worldwide, and they are even prepared to provide robust minimum guarantees (MGs).

A respectable trailer, Nani's constant kindness, and the lackluster reception to Retro's trailer all contribute to this need.  Consequently, what was once perceived as a box office conflict is now strongly favoring HIT 3.  Trailers can only do so much, though.  When both movies are released on May 1, the true test will start.  We won't know if this early edge translates into actual box office receipts until after that.
