In a startling turn of events, an F1 student suddenly learned that his uncle's error had put him out of status for three years.  The student is currently in limbo after a straightforward school transfer that failed to update SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System). The student took to social media to say that his uncle assured him that the correct SEVIS transfer procedure was not a concern. He didn't question it since he didn't know the regulations, but he now understands the grave repercussions of his carelessness. 

In the hopes of obtaining a green card, the student recently married his girlfriend, who is a US citizen.  He recently learned, nevertheless, that he has been out of status for three years.  Although marrying a US citizen can frequently overlook an out-of-status circumstance, it's not always the case.  Although it is feasible to file for a marriage-based green card, experts advise moving quickly because doing so could put you in danger of being apprehended by ICE.
