For the next Harry Potter adaptation on HBO, new young actors are filling in as Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint.  We saw these actors mature on screen in the early 2000s, and their faces are practically inextricably linked to the roles they portrayed.  The casting of the Harry Potter films contributed to the creation of what are perhaps the most recognizable teenage characters in the fantasy genre: Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, and Harry Potter.  In HBO's Harry Potter remake, a new group of celebrities is now taking over to add something fresh to these cherished roles.

Only three of the tens of thousands of kids who tried out for the roles of Harry, Hermione, and Ron in HBO's Harry Potter tv version were chosen.  According to Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod, the showrunner and executive producer of the series, "after an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann," Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout have been cast as Harry, Hermione, and Ron, respectively.  There are some obvious distinctions (and similarities) between these performers and their counterparts from the original Harry Potter films.

How The Harry Potter Show's Dominic McLaughlin Compares To Daniel Radcliffe

Dominic McLaughlin Looks A Bit Less Like Harry Than Daniel Radcliffe

When Daniel Radcliffe was chosen for the Harry Potter films in the late 1990s, he was a near-perfect fit.  He was ideal for Harry since he had that thick black hair and a certain magical quality.  In addition, Radcliffe was shorter than his co-stars.  The actor's eye color was the main distinction between himself and his character.  The Harry Potter films did little to change Radcliffe's blue eyes to match the vivid green that was portrayed for Harry's persona.

Arabella Stanton's Acting Experience Gives Her An Edge

In the Harry Potter films, Emma Watson was another obvious choice.  A lot more effort was put into making sure the actor's hair looked how the books had in earlier volumes.  But as Hermione's hair grew more wavy rather than unmanageably curly over the years, this was abandoned.  For Hermione, Watson never possessed the kind of buck teeth that were featured in the Harry Potter novels.  During early development, she famously had artificial teeth, but they were removed before serious filming started.  However, Watson accomplished Hermione's arrogant demeanor flawlessly.

Arabella Stanton from the Harry Potter television series appears to be another excellent fit.  Though not quite as tightly curled as in the Harry Potter novels, her dark brown hair seems to be naturally wavy.  Naturally, if HBO intends to follow the novels more closely than the Hermione design from the Harry Potter films, the hair and makeup crew could change this.

Alastair Stout Looks Quite Similar To Rupert Grint's Ron

Rupert Grint's hair in the Harry Potter film undoubtedly matched the description of his character in the book.  But compared to Ron in the Harry Potter books, the movie actor is much stockier.  In addition, Grint has a larger nose than Ron's, which is characterized as being long and thin, and isn't very freckled.  Nevertheless, Grint was a great fit for this part since he added a certain crude humor to the part.

Alastair Stout is undoubtedly qualified to play Ron Weasley in HBO's Harry Potter version because of his red hair.  Although he doesn't exactly fit the description of Ron in the Harry Potter books, he has a slightly Grint-like frame and seems to have a round face and wide nose.  But compared to his movie counterpart, Stout has a lot more freckles.  Given that this is Stout's first significant part, it's hard to predict if the new Ron in the Harry Potter remake would approach the job with the same sense of humor that Grint did.  Ron Weasley will serve as the actor's debut to big acting, just like his predecessor did.
