In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Riri Williams was introduced to us and it was revealed that she had developed a vibranium detector. Namor and his fellow Talokans targeted her because that infuriated the Wakandans.  In the film, Riri piloted an armored vehicle to escape from people who wanted to kidnap her.  The teen later developed a very technologically sophisticated suit with Shuri's assistance, which she was eventually compelled to return to the Wakandans.

Ironheart's relationship to Tony Stark/Iron Man was not further explored in the Black Panther sequel, and it has long been clear that she would not be accompanied into battle by an artificial intelligence (AI) representation of the deceased Avenger.  The MCU, on the other hand, jumps ahead of the comics and presents N.A.T.A.L.I.E., an AI that is modeled after the buddy she lost in a drive-by shooting years prior.

It turns out that she was inspired to design a suit by her stepfather, Gary, who was also killed.  Gary was an iron Man fan, and when Riri escaped the shooting that killed her father figure and best friend, she wants to make armor that first responders can wear to get to accident sites much more quickly.

Although it is clear that Riri admires Tony, Ironheart is not about Riri becoming the next iron Man. "Riri is not a billionaire," Dominique Thorne stated in an interview with the Huffington Post.  She's not a business magnate.  She isn't Caucasian.  As a full-time student at M.I.T., she is a 19-year-old Black female from Chicago's South Side who spends her free time garbage diving for her parts and making them.

The actor admitted that "she's an engineer and a genius, that they do have in common."  However, I believe that because we are familiar with what we are comparing, it is easy to do so.  She is a new individual chasing a new goal.  Her existence and capacity to produce something even vaguely similar, regardless how distinct, subtle, and unique it is due to the difference, is amazing. She had a different dream for very different reasons.

She clarified that this is "a testament to the legacy that Tony Stark left behind" on its own.  Millions of individuals were inspired by [Tony Stark] both in the MCU and in our own small world.  Ultimately, Riri is a different person, but she was undoubtedly one of those individuals who stole something amazing from Tony Stark's legacy.
