After Operation Sindoor in 2025, india has given top priority to self-reliance in its defense sector. The central government has made it clear that india will no longer just make weapons for itself, but will also sell them worldwide. The recent visit of prime minister Narendra Modi's Principal Secretary Dr. PK Mishra to DRDO Bangalore Lab indicates both seriousness and speed in this direction. This lab mainly works on radar and electronic warfare technology.
The central government has so far removed more than 400 weapons and equipment from the import list. This simply means that now they will be made in india and used by the army. The major projects that came to light after Dr. Mishra's visit are going to take India's defense policy to new heights.
Hypersonic Hiters BrahMos‑II Missile
The BrahMos‑II missile system is India's most ambitious project. Its range will be 1500 km and its speed will be eight times faster than the sound. It can be launched from land, sea and air platforms. Along with this, the Long Range Anti-Ship Missile project is also going on, which will have a range of more than 1,000 kilometers. It is being prepared to destroy enemy warships.
Next‑Gen air Superiority AMCA Stealth Fighter
India's first fifth-generation stealth fighter jet AMCA is being jointly developed by DRDO and HAL. Its first flight is possible by 2026 and serial production by 2032–33. This fighter jet will have supercruise capability, stealth technology, internal weapon bay and advanced avionics.
Multi-layer air defense system Project Kusha
Project Kusha is a very important project for India. This system can intercept ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, fighter aircraft and drones in a range of 150 to 400 kilometers. DRDO is developing it in india with capabilities similar to S-400. It is expected to start operating by 2028.
Shoulder-fired missile system VSHORADS
This indigenous missile system is being manufactured on such a large scale for the first time in India. Its range is about 6 kilometers and it has an advanced infrared seeker installed. The army has demanded 5,000 units of it, which can include it in India's defense export products.
