US President donald trump has announced that a tax of 20% to 25% will be imposed on goods imported from India. He also said that this tax will be implemented if the two countries cannot conclude a trade agreement soon. Speaking to reporters in this regard, President trump said, "India should pay a 25% tariff." Also, when asked whether taxes of 20% to 25% will be imposed on india, he replied, "Yes, I think so. Even if india is my friend, it should happen." The US and india have been negotiating a trade agreement for several months. But no final decision has been taken yet. President donald trump has been continuously insisting that American products should be given more opportunities in the indian market. He has made the same demands in trade talks held at various places.
Meanwhile, US Trade Representative Jamieson Grier said, "India wants to open up some parts of their market. We are also ready to continue the talks. But we need to have some more discussions with India. We need to see how much effort they are going to put in. Although the officials of both countries have differences on some aspects, they want to fix them."Speaking a few days ago, Union minister Piyush Goyal had said that the trade agreement between india and the US will be concluded in a good manner before november this year. Moreover, the negotiations for the India-US trade agreement are going on very fast and are beneficial for both parties. "This will be a 'win-win' deal for both countries," he said.

US President donald trump imposed a 26% tariff on goods from india on april 2 as part of his efforts to cement trade deals. But the tariffs were temporarily suspended a few days later. trump has yet to send an official letter to india imposing new tariffs, as he has done with several countries recently. However, his recent remarks suggest that india is likely to face tariffs next. The US imported about $87.4 billion worth of goods from india in 2024. At the same time, india bought about $41.8 billion worth of goods from the US. This resulted in a trade volume of $45.7 billion for the US.
