A low-pressure system over the Bay of bengal is influencing coastal & interior districts of tamil Nadu. According to the weather bulletins, this system — already active off the coast — has begun to generate good rainfall in coastal districts and further inland.
The forecast indicates that today Friday, 24 october 2025, significant rain activity is expected in various districts.

📋 Districts expected to see rain today

The weather department has issued alerts for several districts across the state. Key ones include both coastal and inland/Western-Ghats/Interior areas.

Coastal & north/Delta districts:

  • Coastal zones like Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Ranipet, Villupuram etc. are under rain alerts.
  • For example: An “orange alert” (significant rainfall expected) is in effect for districts such as Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai.

Interior / Western / hill & south-western districts:

  • Districts such as Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Erode, Nilgiris (hilly Western region), coimbatore are expected to receive heavy rain or even very heavy rain today. For example: The forecast mentions heavy rain likely in Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Nilgiris, coimbatore for 24 Oct.

  • The weather agencies have issued orange alerts for many districts. These mean “heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places” may happen.
  • A yellow alert is also in place for others, indicating “heavy rainfall at isolated places” but a lower threat level.
  • People living in low-lying areas, near rivers, or in hill-slope zones are advised to stay alert, avoid going near flooded zones, and keep an eye on local warnings.
  • Travel, especially in interior-hilly routes and coastal stretches, may be affected by rain, wind or water-logging.
