Tamil Nadu chief minister M.K. stalin has written a letter to prime minister Narendra Modi, urging the government of india to take decisive steps to safeguard the rights of Sri Lankan Tamils amid proposed constitutional reforms in Sri Lanka.

In his letter, the chief minister expressed deep concern over the ongoing political developments in sri lanka, particularly the proposed constitutional changes that could potentially dilute the political, cultural, and social rights of the tamil minority. He emphasized that Sri Lankan Tamils have long faced discrimination and marginalization, and any reform process must ensure justice, equality, and meaningful devolution of powers to Tamil-speaking regions.

Stalin highlighted the importance of fully implementing the 13th Amendment to the Sri Lankan Constitution, which provides for provincial autonomy, and called for strengthening it rather than weakening it. He stressed that genuine reconciliation in sri lanka can only be achieved by respecting the aspirations of Tamils and ensuring their active participation in governance.

The chief minister also urged the prime minister to use India’s diplomatic influence to impress upon the Sri Lankan government the need to protect tamil rights, uphold democratic values, and honor international commitments related to human rights. He reiterated that india, as a close neighbor with historical, cultural, and ethnic ties to Sri Lankan Tamils, has a moral responsibility to stand by them.

Concluding his letter, stalin appealed to the prime minister to ensure that india continues to be a strong voice for the tamil community in sri lanka and works towards a lasting political solution that guarantees dignity, equality, and security for Tamils on the island.
