Veteran politician Vaiko, General Secretary of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), has stated clearly that his party will not take part in the government formation in tamil Nadu, even if members of the alliance demand a share in power.
Speaking to reporters in Thoothukudi’s Kovilpatti, vaiko emphasized that while the MDMK will remain a key supporter and strong ally of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), it will not seek or accept ministerial posts or administrative positions within the state government.
Alliance Dynamics and Power Sharing
Vaiko’s remarks come amid ongoing discussions among alliance parties about their respective roles as tamil Nadu prepares for the 2026 assembly elections. Several coalition partners have been pushing for representation in government, but vaiko stressed that such claims “won’t be accepted” if the DMK secures a clear majority.
This stance aligns with the broader position expressed by DMK leadership, which has indicated that it will lead independently if it achieves a strong mandate and will not entertain traditional power‑sharing arrangements.

Despite ruling out participation in the government, vaiko reiterated that the MDMK will act as a “spearhead and support” for the DMK — providing political backing and strengthening the alliance’s influence in tamil Nadu politics.
This approach allows the party to maintain its identity and leverage while contributing to the broader electoral strategy of the INDIA alliance against rival parties like the BJP and Congress.
