Resignations in amazon will be investigated, Ministry will find out the violation of labor laws

Amazon Layoffs: The ministry sent a notice to amazon India last week after the newly formed Information technology Employees Senate (NITES) received a complaint from Labor minister Bhupendra Yadav about mass layoffs in violation of labor laws. The labor ministry will set up an inquiry to find out whether labor laws or terms of service were violated during the recent mass resignations in amazon India. This has been confirmed by people familiar with the incident.

The ministry sent a notice to amazon India last week after the newly formed Information technology Employees Senate (NITES) received a complaint from Labor minister Bhupendra Yadav about mass layoffs in violation of labor laws. The amazon India management, in its reply, had said that no employees have been laid off and some employees have resigned after accepting the 'voluntary separation program' of the e-commerce firm.

According to NITES President Harpreet Singh Saluja, the company in its internal communication to employees had said that those who do not opt for the voluntary separation program would be terminated without any benefits under the "Workforce Adaptation Programme". This is a violation of labor laws. According to the report, amazon plans to lay off around 10,000 people in corporate and technology jobs globally. This would be the biggest layoff in the company's history. The resignations in amazon India are being seen as a part of global layoffs by the e-commerce giant.
