Protest in Muthukulathur due to college student killed in police raid.. 

College student killed while being taken to the police station near Muthukulathur. Keelathooval police station near Muthukulathur in Ramanathapuram district charged a vehicle near Melathooval village. Manikandan, a college student from the village arrived at Muthukulathur at 4.30 pm with his friend Sanjay in a two-wheeler. police who were involved in the vehicle raid is said to have stopped Manikandan's two-wheeler. 

Manikandan did not stop his bike so the police got angry and started following him. The student was chased away and the police hit Manikandan and took him to the police station for interrogation. Following this, at 6.30 pm, Manikandan's parents were contacted by phone and asked to take the college student Manikandan home. The parents of Manikandan came to the police station and took him back home as he could not even walk. Manikandan has blood vomited 3 times at home. He was lying in bed at night, was examined dead in the morning. Manikandan's body was examined by relatives and it is said that there was swelling in the male organ. Relatives allege that the police subsequently hit Manikandan to death. The police continued to negotiate with the relatives who refused to accept the explanation. His relatives and villagers staged a protest on the Muthukulathur-Paramakudi road at the entrance of the government hospital. This caused traffic disruption for half an hour. Manikandan's brother alex Pandian has lodged a complaint seeking the arrest of six persons, including Inspector Lakshmi, SP Iyappan, SP Senthil, Premkumar, Lakshmanan, and Karpagam, who were also involved in the vehicle raid.

Following this, the roadblock was abandoned after Ramanathapuram Assistant Superintendent of police Thirumalai and Muthukulathur Assistant Superintendent of police promised to hold discussions and conduct a proper investigation.
