At least six people were killed in a fierce shooting incident in Thailand's capital bangkok on monday (July 28, 2025). The attack took place in the city's Or Tor Kor Market, which is located near Bangkok's famous Chatuchak Market and is usually crowded with tourists and locals. The dead included four security guards, a woman and the attacker himself, who shot himself dead after the firing. This information has come to light from the Erawan Emergency Medical Center, which monitors bangkok hospitals.
Investigation continues to identify the attacker and motive
Bank Sue district deputy police chief Vorapat Sukthai said that so far it is being considered a mass shooting. He said, "Police are investigating the identity of the attacker and the reasons behind the attack." He also said that officials are investigating whether the shooting has any possible connection to the ongoing border dispute between thailand and Cambodia.
Increasing violence in thailand is a matter of concern
Such firings are not new in Thailand. It is easy to buy guns there and the enforcement of gun control laws is often lax, due to which such incidents occur again and again.
The police have cordoned off the area and started investigation. The bodies of the deceased have been sent for postmortem and all the facts related to the incident are being investigated.
Why is there a dispute between thailand and Cambodia?
The border dispute between thailand and cambodia is years old, the center of which is the Preah Vihear temple area. This dispute has not been completely resolved even after the international court of Justice gave a verdict in favor of cambodia in 1962. The armies of both the countries have come face to face in this area from time to time, which have also included incidents of clashes and firing.
