Telangana officials want to ramp up the Covid-19 immunisation campaign in the wake of an increase in Covid infections in many nations, raising fears of a third wave in India. Somesh Kumar, the Chief Secretary, has asked all ministries to work together as closely as possible to achieve the goal of 100% immunisation. The chief secretary stated during a video session with district Collectors that now the incidence of Covid cases is increasing in various nations.

In light of this, he urged the authorities that the vaccination effort needed to be stepped up in all villages as well as wards across the state. The Chief Secretary instructed the district Collectors to form special squads at l to ensure that the whole population is vaccinated. Personnel of the special teams will include Asha workers, Anganwadi workers, a panchayat secretary, and a local revenue assistant, with nodal officers selected at the village as well as mandal levels to monitor vaccination success.

Telangana has a population of 4.1 million people, with 2.8 million of them above the age of 18 and eligible for the Covid vaccine. From Jan 16 to Oct 26, the government gave out 3,07,93,369 doses. The first dosage was given to 2.17 cr individuals, while the two doses were given to 91 lakh people. However, despite having completed the necessary time period between medicines, over 30 lakh persons who have been slated for the second dose had ignored it.
