Importance of Sighting of the moon on Eid!!!


According to the Islamic calendar, Eid al-Fitr (Eid 2022) is celebrated on the first day of the month of Shawwal. It is the tenth month of the Hijri calendar. In the moon-based calendar, this day increases every year by ten-eleven days. It is celebrated after the end of the month of Ramzan.


Why is it important to see the moon on Eid?

The calendar is decided on the sighting of the moon in Islam. According to legends, when Muhammad returned from Mecca to Medina, the Hijri calendar was started. He calculated the months and days when the moon appeared and disappeared. It was officially started in the time of Caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab. Muhammad went from Mecca to Medina in 622 AD and only then this calendar was started. It was named Hijri calendar because of its separation from Mecca or Hijra.


Eid is celebrated at the end of the holy month of Ramadan

In this Ramadan month, fasting for thirty days is sought from above for blessings. This month is celebrated with great pomp. The month of Shawwal begins at the end of Ramadan, since the Islamic or Hijri calendar is based on the movements of the moon, the month of Shawwal also begins with the sighting of the moon. The sighting of this moon also means the end of the month of Ramadan. This is the reason why seeing the moon during Eid is given so much importance.
