World Wildlife Day: Theme and History...

Theme:

2023's World Wildlife Day will honour those who are making a difference by focusing on partnerships for wildlife protection.

History:

The CITES convention, which prohibits the trade in endangered species of wild fauna and flora, was ratified in 1973. Its goal was to make sure that wild fauna and flora species are not endangered by global commerce.

The Conference of the Parties to CITES convened its 16th conference on march 16, 2013, in Bangkok. A resolution was presented at this meeting by the Kingdom of Thailand. World Wildlife Day is declared on march 3 by this decree.

World Wildlife Day was formally declared on march 3 by the United Nations General Assembly's Sixty-eighth session on december 20, 2013.

It was to be observed in order to honour and promote knowledge of the planet's untamed plants and animals. On this day in 1973, CITES was officially approved.

The task of enabling the execution of World Wildlife Day falls to the secretariat of CITES and other pertinent United Nations agencies.

With 183 member states, CITES continues to be one of the most effective organisations in the world for preserving biodiversity by controlling the traffic in wild animals and plants.
