Cancer has become one of the biggest causes of death in the world today. In 2022, 2 crore new cancer patients were found worldwide and about 97 lakh people lost their lives. india is also not untouched by this serious health crisis. cancer cases are increasing rapidly every year in the country and experts believe that this situation may become more serious in the coming times. The National cancer Grid was formed in the year 2012, which aims to provide good and uniform treatment to all cancer patients across India. Now NCG has become a large network of 340 cancer centers, research institutes, patient support groups, charity organizations and professional societies.

The NSG treats more than 8 lakh 50 thousand new cancer patients every year, which is about 60% of the total cancer patients in India. In collaboration with Ayushman Bharat-PMJAY, it provides cheap and certified treatment. It has made a significant contribution in creating electronic health records in the National wallet PLATFORM' target='_blank' title='digital-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW'>digital health Mission (NDHM).

How does NSG work?

NSG connects government and private cancer hospitals in different parts of india to a network. This enables patients to get facilities like big hospitals even in small towns and rural areas. If someone cannot be treated in a hospital, then the patient gets advice from specialist doctors from other hospitals in the network.

The biggest advantage of NCG is that it implements the same guidelines for cancer treatment across the country. Earlier, different hospitals used to treat cancer in different ways, which caused problems to patients. Now the same scientific and certified guidelines are applicable for cancer treatment in all hospitals. This helps patients get correct and effective treatment.

Does NCG provide cheap medicines?

The National cancer Grid does not sell medicines directly to patients, but it plays an important role in making the expensive medicines used in the treatment of cancer cheaper. NCG does this through 'pooled procurement', which makes medicines cheaper.

NSG purchases medicines in large quantities for its member hospitals at once, which brings down the prices of medicines significantly. This reduces the prices of medicines by 23% to 99%. Recently, NCG has conducted successful trials to reduce the prices of medicines to a great extent through 'pooled procurement initiative'.
