The latest BBC documentary about prime minister Modi has generated a great deal of debate. Censorship is also nothing new for either the BBC or the indian government. If you believe that this is the first occasion that a controversial documentary has fallen victim to such an anti-government stance, then you are mistaken. Let us discuss five such films from the past 50 years that encountered issues as a result of the government.


1. Two documentaries in the year 1970 brought 'Bharat Nikla' to BBC

BBC presented two such documentaries in the year 1970, in which the eyebrows of the then government of india were raised. As a result, the BBC had to remain 'exiled from India' for two years. This documentary was by Louis Malle's calcutta and Phantom India. Both of these were broadcast on british television. Due to this, a lot of anger spread in the indian community and a sharp reaction was also given from the government of India. These documentaries were said to be a sketch of the everyday life of india, in which the government of india was shown to be biased and with some such images, which was creating a negative picture of the country.
