A study by Lancet, one of the renowned medical journals, says that the rate of alcohol consumption among men and women has increased marginally in india over the last three decades, i.e. 30 years. Data from a meta-study by Lancet suggests that the number of indian men who consume alcohol has increased in all age groups. The number of women in this line has also increased. Similarly, the study says that 79.9 million men in india drink alcohol.The rate of alcohol consumption is also highest among men aged 40-64. There, alcohol consumption has increased by 5.63 percent since 1990. This is followed by the 15-39 age group with a rise of 5.24 percent. For seniors (over 65), there was a 2.88 percent increase from the 1990 measurement.According to a Lancet study, alcohol consumption among indian women aged 15-39 has increased by 0.08% since 1990. Currently, 5.39 million indian women in this age group drink alcohol, it said. Alcohol consumption among women aged 40-64 has increased by 0.15 percent since 1990. However, women over 65 drink less alcohol than they did 30 years ago.Drinking alcohol is bad for health be it, men or women. It is said that the number of alcohol drinkers has exceeded the 30-year limit when people are already facing many problems due to the change in their diet.
