The sequels to james Cameron's avatar have been in the works for a long time, and avatar 3 is expected to take the series away from Pandora. As has been the case throughout james Cameron's career, the release of avatar in 2009 was a smash hit on a grand scale. avatar would eventually dethrone titanic as the highest-grossing film of all time. This was accomplished twice, with the film reclaiming the title in 2020 following a re-release in china after being momentarily eclipsed by Avengers: Endgame in 2019.

Avatar takes place on Pandora, a distant terrestrial moon inhabited by the blue-skinned Na'vi people. avatar became more than just Cameron's next film; it became an event to be experienced, thanks to the film's huge development in visual effects. Following the success of avatar, cameron began work on the next phase of the plot. Cameron's ambitious goals, like with much of his tech-inspired cinematography, resulted in it taking years longer than the normal blockbuster sequel.

In 2017, the back-to-back shooting of avatar 2 and avatar 3 officially began. The much-anticipated and "mind-blowing" avatar 2 will be released on december 16, 2022, followed by avatar 3 on december 20, 2024. With the new parts of Pandora it's set to explore, avatar 2 is garnering the most immediate attention as the first up. While nothing is known about avatar 3, it would be sensible for the third instalment to venture beyond Pandora's environment.
