Many successful movies starring big-name actors like Vikram, Suriya, Sathyaraj, and others were supported by producer VA Durai. Yet, since the COVID-19 lockdown, his living circumstances have been worse. Recently, the producer posted a video asking for support for his medical care, and Suriya stepped up with some financial support.

There are rumours that VA Durai is ill and has been staying at his friend's house alone because he has no one to take care of him. His legs reportedly have significant wounds as well. The friend of the producer uploaded a video to social media to ask for support for his medical care, saying it would be wonderful if someone could assist Durai in this challenging circumstance. Suriya saw the video someway, and now he is standing up for the director. According to reports, the jai Bhim actor paid VA Durai Rs 2 lakhs for his initial care.

Pithamagan, a massive hit directed by bala and starring Suriya, was produced by VA Durai. Vikram, Suriya, Laila, and sangeetha all appear in the movie. Pithamagan, a 2003 release, rose to prominence as one of tamil cinema's best successes. The movie also won a National Award, a Filmfare Award, and other accolades. In the early 2000s, VA Durai worked with actor sathyaraj and director Sakthi chidambaram on a number of projects through his production and distribution firm, Evergreen cinema International, before experiencing financial difficulties while working on Bala's Pithamagan (2003).
