With the return of the 1997 classic I Know What You Did Last Summer and the latest announcement about Scream, the period of slasher films appears to be making a comeback. It's unclear whether these resurrections will attract to the existing fan base of these movies, given their primary goal of attracting a younger audience. At least, that's how the new amazon Prime series works.

If you've seen the original film starring Jennifer Love-Hewit and Freddie Prinze Jr, the new series follows a similar plot with minor changes. A group of recent grads are involved in an unintentional hit-and-run, and it all comes back to haunt them the following summer when a savage killer seeks vengeance. In the original, a lot of blood was spilt, and the same is true in the series.

With 48-minute episodes, the creators have ample time to delve a little deeper into the characters, allowing us to decide whether or not we should even be rooting for them. It's all about creating something that works on multiple sensory levels in the eerie and horror genres. While the blood and intestines of goats transmit the red signal to your eyes, the sound section falls short when it comes to complementing the jumpscares, which are shot very nicely. Most sequences have good lighting, including some tense moments on the shore in the dark and a cave, which is a vital location in the main mystery.

Madison Iseman, who plays the twins Allison and Lennon, has a difficult task ahead of her in terms of acting. Apart from their identical appearances, their characters have unique personalities, which Madison does an excellent job of portraying. Overall, this should be your choice if you appreciate the excitement of witnessing a gang of teens being tracked down by a mysterious killer in high-stress scenarios and don't vomit at the sight of blood.
