The family had nothing to do with music Surinder Kaur was born on 25 november 1929 in Lahore, Punjab, before the partition of India-Pakistan. The singer was born into a Sikh family. Surinder had seven siblings. The amazing thing is that Surinder's house had never had anything to do with music, so she was not allowed to sing and play. But seeing Surinder's inclination towards music, his elder brother supported her and with great difficulty persuaded her family members to allow music education for Surinder and her elder sister Prakash Kaur. As a result, at the age of 12, Surinder and her sister Prakash Kaur started taking classical music lessons from master Inayat Hussain and master Pandit Mani Prasad.
First of all, spread the magic of your voice here Surinder Kaur, who took music lessons from the age of 12, first auditioned for Lahore Radio in the year 1943. In this audition, she got selected for the children's music program. It was from here that her new life began. After this, Surinder and Prakash Kaur sang duets in their debut album, one of whose songs 'Marwan Te Dhyan Ral Baithiyan' became quite popular. This song made both Surinder and her sister stars overnight. After the partition in 1947, Surinder's family moved to delhi and later settled in Mumbai. Here Surinder Kaur started working as a playback singer in the film industry.
