The present focus of director gunasekhar is on promoting his upcoming movie Shaakuntalam. This mythological drama, in which samantha plays the title character, will premiere on april 14. sam was not the first option for this film, according to Gunasekhar.

In a recent interview, he admitted that samantha wasn't his top option for this movie. But sam was the name his daughter proposed. After that, gunasekhar rewatched rangasthalam and was once more struck by Sam's ability to portray a rural girl's character. At that point, he chose to cast her. He walked over to sam right away, and sam nodded back. samantha pins huge hopes on this project and she hopes this would be a success in her career and it won't end up as a disappointment.
 
Gunasekhar claimed that he had originally anticipated finishing the movie in six months, but for a variety of factors, it took him longer. He claimed that 81 working days were required for him to complete the filming. The post-production process took more than 15 months. gunasekhar worked on this film for three years in total. Dev Mohan plays the main figure in Shaakuntalam. Other prominent actors included Mohan Babu, Kabir Bedi, Aditi Balan, ananya nagalla, and Allu Arha.
