Ponniyin Selvan 2 is unsuccessful in reaching Top...??
The second instalment of Mani Ratnam's epic drama, ponniyin selvan 2, opened in theatres on april 28 to a lot of anticipation. Prior to its release, many predicted that the movie would surpass ponniyin selvan 1, which came out back in september 2022, as well as produce outstanding box office results. The highest-grossing tamil movie of the year, PS 1 finished its theatrical run with close to Rs. 500 crores in revenue.
PS 2, on the other hand, has had a successful start to its box office run, and according to the well-known trade aggregator, the movie made close to Rs. 30 crores on Day 1. For obvious reasons, the original tamil version has contributed the most, with a market share of more than 75%. The Telugu, tamil, and malayalam dubbed versions have all done reasonably well at the box office. However, the kannada dubbed version has suffered as a result of a severely constrained release in terms of the number of shows.
However, the state of karnataka has once again proven to be favourable for major tamil releases, and ponniyin selvan 2 has also taken advantage of the broad market. According to the same trade figures, the movie only managed to earn close to 4.0 crores in karnataka while only achieving 2.7 crores and 2.8 crores in kerala and Andhra Pradesh/Telangana, respectively. With almost 650 shows scheduled for Day #2 (Saturday) alone in Bengaluru, PS 2 is getting a very wide release in Karnataka.
And yet, as far as tamil films go, ponniyin selvan, 2 falls short of making the top 10 list of biggest opening day grossers in karnataka, despite all the spectacular numbers.
