Uddhav Thackeray's party made its stand clear...
The Joint Committee of Parliament, which is considering the Wakf (Amendment) Bill, has accepted the draft report and the amended bill by majority. Mps have been given time till 4 pm on wednesday (29 January) to register their disagreement. uddhav Thackeray's party Shiv Sena (UBT), which is part of the opposition group, has also expressed disagreement on the bill.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Arvind Sawant said, "I have given a dissent note. First of all, a lot of misunderstandings are being spread. They have brought this bill from political considerations, not for justice. There is no respect for the Constitution in this bill."
He said, "When you say that there will be non-Muslims in the Wakf Board, then I am afraid that the arrangements of our Hindu temples do not allow any non-Hindus to stay in them. Then they will make demands for the arrangements of Hindus. The federal structure is being abolished. They say that they will nominate people to the board, earlier they used to be elected. You can understand what will happen by nominating. It is an attack on the unity and integrity of the country.''
The bill will be handed over to Om Birla
Jagdambika Pal, chairman of the joint committee of Parliament, may hand over the revised version of the proposed law to lok sabha Speaker om birla on thursday (30 January). In a meeting held on monday (27 January), the committee accepted all the amendments proposed by the members of the bharatiya janata party (BJP) and rejected the amendments of the opposition members.
