As aamir khan gears up for the release of 'Sitaare Zameen Par', the actor has opened up about a deeply personal connection to its predecessor, 'Taare Zameen Par'. At a recent fan meet, the actor talked about his son, Junaid Khan's journey with dyslexia during his early years. The subject of dyslexia came into the spotlight earlier this year when Junaid, during promotions for his film 'Loveyapa', candidly spoke about his learning disability. In a widely circulated interview clip, Junaid shared that both his parents — aamir khan and reena Dutta — stood by him through those challenging years.
Aamir Khan on how he treated Junaid
At the fan meeting, Aamir admitted that his early approach as a father wasn't as compassionate as the character ram shankar Nikumbh, the supportive teacher he portrayed in the film. Recalling those early days, Aamir confessed, “I was like Nandkishore Awasthi in the beginning (the father from Taare Zameen Par). I used to scold Junaid.”
Opening up further, he shared a memory that left a lasting impression, “So I would tell him, ‘Junaid, how can someone write so badly? No one can even read this. What is it? You can’t even write an A? What’s going on?’ I genuinely used to ask him. And when he used to read, he would say ‘from’ instead of ‘for’. Whenever he saw an ‘F’, he would just guess the word — of, from, for. He couldn’t read properly. So I used to try to explain things to him, and I would get confused too — how can he not understand such simple things?”
How Junaid's diagnosis helped Aamir to provide him with support
It wasn’t until later that the family discovered Junaid was grappling with dyslexia. Aamir explained that the diagnosis helped them understand his difficulties and offer the support he needed. “Then later on, we found out he has dyslexia. And of course, we helped him with that. But when I heard the story, it felt like my story. It was so close to me.”
'Sitaare Zameen Par' is scheduled to be released on june 20,
