Filmmaker tanuja Chandra described her experience directing irrfan khan in Qarib Qarib Singlle as “beautiful” yet “difficult.”

Speaking on The pooja bhatt Show, she said Irrfan was “not easy” to work with as he disliked multiple takes, fearing it would diminish spontaneity.

Irrfan Took a Year to Say Yes

Irrfan took an entire year to accept the role in Qarib Qarib Singlle.

Tanuja recalled telling him, “If it’s not going to happen, maybe another time.”

His wife, Sutapa Sikdar, even joked, saying, “Make it with Farhan. Will you make it with Farhan?”

Irrfan finally agreed, showing his deep commitment to choosing the right roles.

His Craft and Dedication

Tanuja praised Irrfan’s dedication to acting, sharing anecdotes from Sutapa about him rehearsing at 3 a.m., walking around the house, and perfecting lines.

Despite his aversion to many takes, his craftsmanship was meticulous and thoughtful.

Humour and Warmth on Set

Irrfan’s presence brought both intensity and humor to the set.

During dubbing, when asked to speak louder, he jokingly replied, “Why? Can’t you hear me?”

Tanuja recalled a humorous moment: “I’m short… the frame is getting ruined.” To which Irrfan said, “After this film, I feel that you’re really tall.”
