Shortly after state ministers Subrata Mukherjee and Firhad Hakim, as well as TMC mla madan Mitra, was arrested by the cbi, mamata banerjee raced to the cbi office. Sovan Chatterjee, a former TMC leader and minister, has also been arrested in the case. In 2014, Mathew Samuel of the Narada tv news station allegedly launched a sting operation. The videos were made public immediately before West Bengal's 2016 assembly elections. In march 2017, the calcutta high court ordered a cbi investigation into the sting operation.

Kailash Vijayvargiya, the BJP's national general secretary, said on twitter that Banerjee was obstructing the CBI's work. The BJP's bengal handler tweeted, "CM of West bengal @MamataOfficial who is under oath to maintain law and order in the state is sadly indulging in threatening law enforcement agencies and creating hurdles for the CBI." "This is really sad for Bengalis," Vijayvargiya remarked.

TMC activists' protest was criticised by bjp state president dilip ghosh, who said the agitation just goes to prove that they have no regard for the law of the land. "Rather than protesting in the streets, the party should pursue legal recourse," Ghosh said. Mukul Roy and Suvendu Adhikary, according to the bjp state president, "cooperated with the agency, unlike others who have been brought into jail."
