As per latest report Tata Group will start manufacturing apple iPhones in india in two and a half years for the domestic and global markets, Electronics and technology minister Rajiv chandrasekhar today officially announced. The development underscores India's growing manufacturing capacity and is said to represent a significant shift from Apple's previous strategy of selling new devices mostly made in china to eager customers around the world. With this, the group will become India's first indigenous iphone maker. "Ministry of Electronics fully supports the development of global indian electronics companies, which will support global electronics brands who want to make india their reliable manufacturing and efficient partner and realize the Prime Minister's goal of making india a global electronics powerhouse," Mr chandrasekhar tweeted.
The Tata Group has acquired the operations of apple supplier Wistron Corp. It announced the development at a board meeting today for about $125 million, according to a company statement. The Union minister thanked Wistron for "building indian companies under its leadership to create a global supply chain from India". Amid the Washington-Beijing trade war, prime minister Narendra Modi's financial incentives to boost local manufacturing and Apple's strategy to expand its vision beyond china have helped india gain prominence in the iphone maker's diversification drive.
PLI (Production-Linked Incentives) scheme - announced in 2021 for 14 sectors including large-scale electronics manufacturing, white goods, textiles, medical device manufacturing, automobile, etc.
