Following the shooting death of SDPO Chingtham anand Kumar by suspected militants on tuesday in Moreh, 110 km south of Imphal, a significant number of men and women have been agitating in Imphal and other areas, according to a police officer. The crowd allegedly tried to besiege the 1st Manipur Rifles complex, which is next to raj bhavan and the Chief Minister's office in the Imphal West area, and engaged in combat with the security forces while requesting weapons and ammunition.
"The security officers used a baton charge to subdue the crowd before opening fire from the air. Few individuals were slightly hurt during the altercation, according to the official. The Imphal West district administration decided to abolish the curfew's relaxation times due to the tight situation in the city. Similar to prior days, the district administration has loosened the curfew, which is in effect from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.
In a another incident on tuesday, three police officers were shot when a state force convoy in Sinam, Tengnoupal district, was attacked by suspected terrorists. After the SDPO was killed, the convoy was dispatched to Moreh as reinforcement to help with combing operations.
