Various factors such as burning of agricultural waste by farmers in neighboring states, new constructions, demolition of old buildings, and overabundance of vehicles are said to be responsible for air pollution. In this situation, air pollution has increased in delhi for the past few days. The air quality index has crossed 400. Microscopic PM2.5 particles, which can penetrate deep into the lungs and cause health problems, are seven to eight times higher than the limit set by the delhi government.
People are suffering from respiratory problems and eye irritation due to air pollution. Primary schools are on holiday till the 10th. students from class 6 to 12 have been advised to take online classes. While the delhi government is taking various measures to control air pollution, chief minister arvind kejriwal has called for a high-level advisory meeting on the matter. The meeting will be attended by Environment minister Gopal Roy and senior officials from other departments.
According to the Central pollution Control Board, the overall air quality has remained very poor for the fifth day. delhi has the worst air quality among capital cities globally. Recommended air Quality Index (AQI) should be less than 50 for healthy living. But it has crossed 400 in delhi for the past few days. Doctors warn that it is dangerous for those suffering from lung-related diseases and may increase the risk of lung cancer.
