As per report Union minister Rajeev chandrasekhar has said that a 7 day curfew has been imposed on social media and an officer will be appointed to take action against deep fakes. Recently, various celebrities including prime minister Narendra Modi have expressed concern about the creation of fake videos and information using deepfake technology. Following this, Union IT minister Ashwini Vaishnav had said that a law would soon be enacted against deep bags.

Union minister of State for Electronics and Information technology Rajeev chandrasekhar has said that a 7-day curfew has been imposed on social media and an officer will be appointed to take action against deep fakes. Union minister Rajiv chandrasekhar said the Ministry of Electronics and Information technology (Meity) will set up a website for users to register their complaints about violations of IT rules by social media platforms. "The Ministry of Electronics and Information technology will inform the users about the violation of IT rules and provide necessary assistance to them in filing FIRs." said the minister.

An FIR will be registered against those found in the middle of posting fake posts. minister Rajeev chandrasekhar said that if they reveal the details of where such content came from, those who posted the content will be prosecuted. Violation of IT rules will not be tolerated, he said, adding that social media platforms have been given seven days to revise their terms of use as per IT rules. “In the age of artificial intelligence, it is important to use technology responsibly.” The minister also said.

The central government has warned that if deep fakes are created and circulated, a fine of Rs 1 lakh and 3 years imprisonment will be imposed. Also, the Ministry of Electronics and Information technology has also issued some instructions to social media platforms regarding laws, rules, penalties and procedures against fake videos. It also said that if fake videos are reported, such content should be removed and disabled within 36 hours. Earlier, Union home minister Rajiv chandrasekhar had said that it is a legal duty for online platforms to prevent the spread of fake information.
