Telangana witnesses three-cornered contest between congress, bharatiya janata party (BJP), and ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). Polling to elect 119 members to Legislative assembly started at 7 am. In telangana, BRS is trying to retain power for 3rd consecutive term, while congress and bjp fought tooth and nail to get into power. Top national leaders including PM narendra Modi, rahul gandhi, and BRS supreme K Chandrasekar Rao campaigned to woo voters. The fate of 679 total seats across five states will be declared on Sunday.
A BRS worker says, “Kondal reddy is roaming around with a fake pass and speaking with the Returning Officer. He is roaming around with 20 people. He went to three polling stations with them in three vehicles but the police didn’t tell them anything…They are indulging in hooliganism after coming here. We got the people accompanying him, arrested by Police. But the police released them in 10 minutes…We will complain to the election Commission.”
Congress president mallikarjun Kharge thursday said the people of telangana have decided that they will choose a transparent and people-friendly government that has a safety net for the disadvantaged. Former party chief rahul gandhi urged the people of telangana to vote in large numbers and vote for the Congress. Polling is underway to elect 119 members of the telangana Legislative assembly, with voters queuing up to exercise their franchise amid tight security on Thursday.
