After formation of bjp government with majority in chhattisgarh assembly elections, now congress is looking
for the reason for its defeat in other assembly seats of chhattisgarh as well as 8 seats of Bastar. congress has
faced defeat by huge margins in 7 out of 8 seats reserved for tribals. Especially PCC President deepak Baij has
suffered a crushing defeat from Chitrakote Assembly. The reason for the defeat in these seats is also being said to
be the displeasure of the tribals with the local congress leaders. For a long time, the entire tribal community had
been continuously protesting against the congress government demanding priority to be given to tribal youth in
local recruitment.
If experts are to be believed, the tribal society was seen agitating in the streets regarding many demands and on
issues like conversion, resentment was seen between the original tribals and the converted tribals. In such a
situation, it is being said that due to the resentment of the tribals, congress lost 8 out of 12 seats in Bastar. At the
same time, big tribal faces like senior congress leaders Mohan Markam, Santram Netam, Chandan Kashyap,
Chhvindra Karma, shankar Dhurwa have also faced defeat in their assembly constituencies due to the resentment
of the tribals. In fact, in the tribal dominated area Bastar, 8 out of 12 assembly seats have gone to bjp in the
assembly elections 2023. congress has won in other 4 seats, but there is not much margin of victory in two of
these four seats. congress has suffered a crushing defeat in the same tribal seats which congress considered as its
vote bank.
Bastar's senior journalist and political expert srinivas Rath says that during the last 5 years of Congress
government, congress brought many public welfare schemes but these schemes were not visible on the ground.
Especially in the tribal dominated areas, there was a lot of resentment among the tribals towards Congress. Be it
the movement regarding the local demands of the tribals or the development in these areas. Regarding this, the
tribals were angry with the local congress leaders as well as the congress government for a long time. For
example, congress has suffered the biggest consequences of not getting reservation for tribal youth in local
recruitment. The siege of the offices of congress MLAs and the march of tribals from Bastar to the capital Raipur
on various demands is being said to be the reason for the defeat.
