Shiromani Akali Dal President sukhbir singh badal has appealed to prime minister narendra modi to intervene

to ensure the purchase of cotton at MSP in Punjab. He posted on X and wrote that PM narendra modi should

intervene and ensure that the purchase of cotton in punjab is done at Rs 6,920 per quintal and the reduction in

quality by Rs 150 per quintal is ended. sukhbir singh badal further wrote, I also request that the Cotton

Corporation of india be directed to ensure uninterrupted procurement of cotton in the state which is not being

done at present. This is necessary for the welfare of the farmers.

Farmers forced to sell cotton at loss

Badal said that the farmers of Abohar belt are facing a lot of problems. CCI stopped procurement on 30

November and started procurement again on 7 December. After this, the procurement was stopped again on 9th

December and now the procurement is likely to start on 12th December. Overall, CCI is making purchases as per

its wish.

Farmers should be given MSP of Rs 6,920

The Akali Dal president said that due to repeated closure of procurement, farmers are being forced to sell their

produce to private traders. Taking advantage of the helplessness of the farmers, private traders are offering only

Rs 5,000 to Rs 5,200 per quintal. Out of 3.5 lakh quintals of Narma produced in the state, only one lakh quintals

have been procured so far. sukhbir singh badal has urged PM Modi to issue instructions to ensure uninterrupted

and smooth procurement of cotton, saying that farmers should be given MSP of Rs 6,920 on cotton crop. Farmers

will benefit by getting the right price.
