Santosh is a 17-year-old boy from Nagammai town in Tirumullaivayal next to Avadi in Chennai. On march 29, he was standing on the terrace of his house and talking on his mobile phone.


Then, unexpectedly, he was electrocuted from a high-voltage power line near the house. Santhosh's family and neighbors heard his screams and immediately admitted him to the hospital.



He is undergoing intensive care with 90% burns. The Tirumullaivayal police have registered a case and are investigating the incident. The incident of the death of a youth due to electrocution from a high-voltage power line has caused a great tragedy in the Tirumullaivail area.


The incident has also raised fears about the dangers posed by high-voltage power lines. Is there a risk of electrocution if you talk on a cell phone while standing under high-voltage power lines? The question also arises among the public.


Explaining this, annamalai university Department of Electronics and Communication professor Sakthivel says, "Mobile electromagnetic radiation has nothing to do with electricity passing through high-voltage power lines. If you stand under high-voltage power lines and use them, there will be no harm."


But, "When the humidity in the air is high, its electrical conductivity decreases. If the person stands under a high-voltage power line, the person himself becomes a conductor and electricity may flow through his body," he explained.
