Rashmi Barve, the candidate from Ramtek seat of Maharashtra, has suffered a big setback. bombay high court has canceled his nomination. Barve was the congress candidate from Mahavikas Aghadi. Despite the hearing in the supreme court today, Barve did not get any relief. According to ABP Majha, the cancellation of rashmi Barve's caste validity certificate was challenged in the bombay High Court. The district Caste Certificate Verification Committee had canceled both his caste certificate and caste validity certificate citing fake documentation. As a result, Barve's application for candidature in the lok sabha elections was rejected on the grounds of an invalid certificate. While the nagpur bench of the bombay high court temporarily stopped the cancellation of Barve's caste certificate, it refused to grant relief in respect of his candidature as the congress candidate for the Ramtek lok sabha constituency.
The next hearing on this matter is to be held in nagpur bench on april 22 after the voting for Ramtek lok sabha constituency is over. Although Barve has received interim relief regarding the cancellation of his caste validity certificate, his candidature is in danger.
The development came to light as the election commission began scrutiny of nomination papers submitted by candidates for the five lok sabha seats in the state, where voting is scheduled in the initial phase on april 19. She said that even if the election commission rejects Rashmi's nomination, her husband and congress surrogate candidate Shyamlal Barve will come forward to contest the elections from this constituency. This step has been taken following a complaint filed in the Social Justice Department alleging irregularities in the process of obtaining the caste certificate of rashmi Barve. rashmi Barve called the last-minute cancellation of her caste certificate 'politically motivated' and said she would challenge it legally. Mahayuti has fielded ruling shiv sena candidate Raju Parve in place of two-time mp Kripal Tumane to face rashmi Barve. Notably, Mahayuti's ally bjp had also expressed interest in contesting the elections from the same constituency.
