An indian sailor who was among the crew of a cargo ship captured by Iranians near the Strait of Hormuz on april 13 has returned home safely, the Ministry of External Affairs said.

"With the combined efforts of the indian Mission in Tehran and the government of iran, one of the indian crew members of the cargo ship MSC Aries, Ann Tessa Joseph of Thrissur, Kerala, has landed safely at kochi International Airport," External Affairs spokesperson Randhir jaiswal ."The indian Embassy in Tehran is in touch with the remaining 16 indian crew members on board the ship. The crew members are in good health. We are also in touch with their family members in india," the State Department said in a statement. india is also in touch with Iranian authorities to ensure the welfare of the indians still on board, the government said. Earlier, External Affairs minister Jaishankar spoke to Iran's Foreign minister Amir Abdullahian about the issue.
