'Campaigning is not a constitutional or fundamental right'

Arvind kejriwal News: In an affidavit filed in the supreme court, the ED said that arvind kejriwal is not contesting the lok sabha elections and no political leader has been granted interim bail for election campaigning.

CM arvind kejriwal is lodged in tihar jail in the money laundering case related to the delhi liquor policy. The supreme court is going to pronounce its verdict on his interim bail plea on May 10. But before that today (Thursday), the ED has filed an affidavit in the supreme Court. In this, the investigating agency said that granting interim bail for election campaigning is not a fundamental or constitutional right.

In a new affidavit filed in the supreme court, the ED said that no leader has been granted interim bail for election campaigning, even if he is not contesting the elections. The ED said that it is relevant to keep in mind that the right to campaign for elections is neither a fundamental right, nor a constitutional right, not even a legal right.

Supreme court to pronounce verdict on May 10

The agency said that even if a candidate contesting the election is in custody, he has not yet been granted interim bail for his own campaign. Justice sanjeev Khanna, who is heading the bench hearing Kejriwal's plea against the arrest, had said on Wednesday, "We will pronounce the verdict on interim bail on Friday. The main case related to challenging the arrest will also be heard on that day."

AAP convenor arvind kejriwal was arrested by the ED on march 21. He is currently lodged in tihar jail under judicial custody. Justice Dipankar Dutta was also included in the bench. The bench had reserved its verdict on Kejriwal's interim bail plea on May 7. A delhi court had extended Kejriwal's judicial custody till May 20. (With PTI input)
