Booking train tickets online is about to change. Starting October 1, the indian Railways will implement a new Aadhaar-based rule that impacts how passengers reserve tickets. The move is aimed at ensuring transparency, reducing misuse, and making the system more passenger-friendly. Here’s everything you need to know.

1. The First 15 Minutes are Key

From october 1, the first 15 minutes of general reservation (8:00 am to 8:15 am) will be exclusively reserved for passengers who authenticate themselves using Aadhaar. This means only Aadhaar-verified users will be able to book tickets during this crucial window, which is often the busiest.

2. Why Aadhaar Verification Matters

The indian Railways has introduced this step to reduce the misuse of online booking by touts and automated bots. Aadhaar authentication ensures that tickets are being booked by genuine passengers, not fake accounts or intermediaries.

3. How to Get Aadhaar Verified on IRCTC

If you haven’t linked your Aadhaar to your irctc account yet, here’s how:

1. Log in to your irctc account.

2. Go to “My Profile” and select “Aadhaar KYC.”

3. Enter your Aadhaar number and verify with OTP.

4. Once verified, your account will be marked as Aadhaar-verified.

4. Who Benefits from This Change?

· Frequent travelers: They get a fair chance to book tickets during the high-demand initial minutes.

· Genuine users: Reduces unfair competition from bots and touts.

· Indian Railways: Better transparency and reduced black-marketing of tickets.

5. What About Non-Aadhaar Users?

Don’t worry—after the first 15 minutes, ticket booking opens for all users as usual. Aadhaar verification is only mandatory if you want to book tickets between 8:00 am and 8:15 am. Beyond that, everyone has equal access.

This move is part of indian Railways’ larger effort to digitize and streamline services. From paperless ticketing to UPI-enabled payments, Aadhaar integration is another step toward a more transparent and tech-friendly passenger experience.

Bottom Line: If you often struggle to get tickets in the first few minutes of booking, Aadhaar verification could be your golden ticket. Link your Aadhaar with irctc before october 1 to take full advantage of this new rule.
