In a remarkable case from China, an elderly woman named Liu has taken an unconventional step by bequeathing her substantial property, valued at Rs 23 crore, to her cherished pets—cats and dogs—rather than her three children. Liu, a resident of Shanghai, made this unique decision when formulating her will, driven by disappointment with her children's neglect during her illness.

Initially, after her husband's demise, Liu had designated her property to her children in her will. However, as time passed, her children's behaviour changed, and they ceased providing care during her health struggles. Disenchanted by their lack of support, Liu decided to amend her will, leaving her entire estate in the names of her loyal pets.

Expressing her frustration with her children's behaviour, Liu justified her decision by highlighting their absence and lack of care during her times of need. In an unprecedented move, she prioritized the welfare of her pets over her offspring, symbolizing the profound bond she shared with her cats and dogs.

To ensure the proper administration of Liu's unique will, a local veterinary hospital has been appointed as the custodian of her legacy. Their responsibility includes overseeing the well-being and care of Liu's beloved animals, marking a rare instance where an individual has chosen animals as the beneficiaries of their substantial assets.
