With his portrayal of solid realism accompanied by stunning drama and a constant honesty fueled voice against oppression, Nagraj Manjule carved his image as one of the most important filmmakers in indian cinema today. With the films 'Fandry' and 'Sairat,' he made a remarkable impression among the audience and critics. When such a director collaborates with such a great performer as amitabh bachchan, there are bound to be some expectations, which Jhund mostly meets.

Jhund tells the narrative of Vijay Borade, a sports teacher on the verge of retirement, and his adventure with slum children whom he aspires to reform and improve their lives via football games, where he discovered their hidden talent. The earthy feel of the slum that director Manjule unapologetically evokes, almost all of the key youngsters and their characterizations from that place leave some impact on you, they seem real, they act naturally without overdoing, you feel like you're watching them from a close distance, and of course, Big B's performance as Vijay Borade was as great as you expect him to be. Manjule captured his enactment of emotions so subtly and they grow on you very organically as the movie proceeds, and his dialogue delivery still has that captivating charm that pleases you like nothing else.

Technically speaking Jhund is well-made, sudhakar Reddy Yakkanti's cinematography is excellent, and the camera movements in key match situations are thrilling to watch. The score by Saket Kanetkar is fine, all the background tracks are gently incorporated, and they carry the circumstances and emotions with appropriate notes without being loud, and the music by Ajay- Atul is foot-tapping, especially the title track, which delivers enough kick to shake your body a bit. The editing by Kutub Inamdar and Vaibhav Dhabade is excellent in the first half, but the product would have been much better if they had been more precise with their scissors in the second half; the 169-minute runtime clearly strains one's patience at a few parts.
