The first glimpse at The Last of Us has arrived, after years of failure to bring it to the screen. The HBO series is based on Naughty Dog's computer game of the same name, which is set in a post-apocalyptic America where humans have been mutated into vicious creatures known as Clickers by a deadly strain of fungus. The Last of Us follows smuggler Joel as he takes a job transporting the adolescent Ellie through the united states in search of a cure for the world's ailment.

The Last of Us stars Pedro Pascal as Joel, as well as Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones), Gabriel Luna (Joel's brother Tommy), Merle Dandridge, Jeffrey Pierce, Nico Parker, Anna Torv, Murray Bartlett, Nick Offerman, and Storm Reid. With Chernobyl scribe Craig Mazin, Neil Druckmann, the developer and director of the source game, is co-creating and scripting the ten-episode series adaptation. With The Last of Us' production coming to a close, the show's creators have some exciting news for fans of the game.

As the Summer Game Fest gets underway, Druckmann takes to twitter to release the first image from The Last of Us. The scene from the tv adaption shows Pedro Pascal's Joel and Bella Ramsey's Ellie sheltering in a dark spot for the first time.
