The last thing you want to call a payments wallet software is an empty pocket. KhaaliJeb, on the other hand, implies just that. The UPI-based online payment service, which caters mostly to students, grew in popularity prior to Covid, with 500+ eateries and salons signing up for discount programmes. As a result of the Covid-19-induced lockdowns, the number of downloads for the KhaaliJeb app plummeted dramatically, and their ratings on google Play dropped to one star. However, the app, like many other pandemic-affected businesses, quickly reinvented itself.

KhaaliJeb co-founder Prakash Kumar says, "KhaaliJeb is a membership-based discount club that offers students and youths great discounts and deals from more than 100 brands across a variety of categories. Our UPI transactions were also hit by the epidemic, and there was no growth at all... eventually, our banking partner could no longer support us. We failed miserably despite designing a fantastic product. We had spent a lot of time and work getting ready to go live on UPI, and we had delayed much too long. customers began removing the app, and we received a large number of one-star reviews. Finding a new banking partner for UPI was going to be a time-consuming and incredibly difficult procedure for an early-stage firm like us, so we had no choice but to reinvent."
