30-Minute Public Welfare Program on Private tv Channels..!?

Public interest programs can be aired for up to 30 minutes on private tv channels. But the Ministry has advised that it should be broadcasted in small parts instead of continuously for half an hour. The Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has instructed that public welfare programs should be broadcasted for 30 minutes on private tv channels. The new notification issued by the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting includes guidelines for broadcasting public interest programs on private televisions.
Accordingly, public interest programs can be aired for up to 30 minutes on private tv channels. But the ministry has advised that instead of broadcasting continuously for half an hour, it should be broadcast in small parts. Also, these programs should not be aired between 12 midnight and 6 am. It also said that the 12-minute time limit for commercials cannot be relaxed to telecast public interest programs during commercial breaks.The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has also said that all private channels will have to submit a monthly report on the Broadcasting service website. It has suggested that private tv channels can share and rebroadcast public welfare programs among themselves and create a website for the same. In november last year, the central government had already directed private tv channels to air 30 minutes of public interest programs. It was said that they can choose the time for that. It also directed that public welfare programs can be aired in eight categories: education, agriculture and rural development, health and family welfare, science and technology, the welfare of women, welfare of weaker sections of society, environment, and cultural preservation, and national unity.
