Zerodha's nithin Kamath has unveiled Kite Backup, a new emergency trading feature for the Kite platform, designed to simplify trading complexities. Announced on august 14, this initiative aims to address potential disruptions, acknowledging that even minor issues can hinder trading operations. Kamath emphasized the importance of safeguarding clients’ trading experiences, stating, "We’re still paranoid" despite existing redundancies.

Kite Backup operates independently from the main Kite infrastructure, utilizing whatsapp for communication. In the event that both the Kite app and web platform become inaccessible during market hours, traders can still manage their orders—specifically canceling orders and exiting positions. Kamath shared a video detailing this backup feature, which is built on microsoft Azure, ensuring no shared components with the existing Kite systems.

The existing Kite infrastructure involves a multi-layered process, including Cloudflare security screening and AWS cloud servers, which connect to stock exchanges. In contrast, Kite Backup ensures security through its separate architecture. Users can view open positions, cancel pending orders, and check holdings and margins via whatsapp, although they cannot place new orders.

Setting up Kite Backup involves four simple steps: saving the designated whatsapp number (+919964452020), sending a message to initiate contact, providing user ID and PAN details, and entering an SMS OTP for verification. Once logged in, users can access key features including open positions, pending orders, holdings, and margins.

Kite Backup is available continuously, regardless of the primary Kite platform's status. However, it's important to note that if the backend servers are down, the whatsapp interface will also be unavailable, as both systems ultimately rely on the same infrastructure to connect with the exchange.
